Shush (Persian: شوش‎; also Romanized as Shūsh, Shoosh, and by name of the ancient nearby city: Sūsa)[1] is a city in and the capital of Shush County, khuzestan Province, Iran.
At the 2006 census, its population was 53,897, in 10,689 families.[2] Shush is located beside ancient Susa. It is located in the lower Zagros Mountains about 250 km (160 mi) east of the Tigris River, between the Karkheh and Dez Rivers. The modern Iranian town of Shush is located at the site of ancient Susa.
