The Maderme Custom

The first day of each Tabari (ancient calendar of Mazandaran) is called Maderme. It is usual that every home gets someone who is believed to be felicific to enter the home first to home and not everyone in before him.
In past time, grandparents were very committed to this custom so much that hang a wood in oblique form to notice the guests or new comers that they are waiting for a felicific person.
After breaking the Maderme by Maderme Ling or Khosh Pe (felicific person), the home owner fells relax and others can enter the home without any worry.
Maderme Ling is the person who is believed to be felicific and blessed, deserved to break the Maderme to attract the blessing and bounty of God.

It is customary that each family selects one person as maderme ling among family members, neighbors, relatives, children, the seeyed, or those who are famous as felicific and good persons.
To prove the well-doing of Maderme people usually refer to Quran; if it sounds good, they invite the person to their home. And if he was a family member, whole family leaves the home minutes before the New Year turn-over and he enters the rooms ...see more first with his right foot with flower, green grass and the holy Quran in his hands while all family members wearing their new clothes for New Year.
He greets and prays while he enters the rooms one by one. Then he puts the flower, green grass and the holy Quran on the cloth prepared for the New Year and takes his New Year gift from the elder of the family.
Then all have sweets and pray to God to have a blessed year
